Spoony wing commander privateer8/13/2023 Privateer 2 was more than two years in the making. This is no surprise: Privateer 2 was developed by Electronic Arts of Manchester, and delivered to Origin only for last-minute fixes, updates, and improvements. What we have instead of a true sequel is an aesthetically pleasing space flight sim seasoned with high budget full motion video and garnished with more bugs and glitches than this reviewer has ever seen in a product boasting Origin's seal of approval. Privateer 2 is touted as a Wing Commander game, but no obvious connection exists. So if you're hoping for the latest Wing Commander game, well, you'll just have to keep on hoping. Privateer 2 is a sequel for two reasons only: 1) it shamelessly borrows the original Privateer's strong game design made legendary by Firebird's classic intergalactic trading game Elite, and 2) see part 1. Priest4hire wrote:To my eternal chagrin, I went back and realized he didn't.The latest installment of Origin Systems' prized Wing Commander saga is little more than a clever piece of marketing posing as part of the series. I could have sworn it was noobjockey, but it was nobjockey. Best defense I have that it's such a strange term, and I'm too tired. (Still, nobjockey? What? Best I could find was the urban dictionary claiming it as a referring to a homosexual.) I retract those comments, as even if it had been noob, my remarks were stronger than they should have been. How about this: Someone who has achieved as much as Garriott, and has been around as long, deserves some benefit of the doubt at least. Altho now you point it out the term could certainly be perceived as a homosexual reference, its actually not. Or at least not in my world, it was just a random insult that sounded somewhat amusing. I apologise for any offence caused by my use of colourful language. I do that sometimes, and if it bothers you I am happy to remove/modify it. I have not gone and read anything further on this. I didn't really care enough to read further. You will note if you read my early comments that the reason I didn't support it was because the kickstarter was all over the place, the concepts of singleplayer multiplayer and persistent world etc had NOT been explained well, and the microtransactions was the big kicker for me. It looked like a quick cash grab, and a jumping on the bandwagon.(which I still believe it was)įor someone with such a "history" I would have expected a stronger, better put together kickstarter than what was initially provided. just-suck that article, that I decided I was glad I had not backed it due to Garriot's arrogance. I will probably go back and read/watch spoony's interview. But in many ways the damage has been done. And mostly because of the poorly designed KS. Garriot at the moment has the same level of respect that I give to Lucas. Perhaps he will redeem himself where Lucas just dug himself deeper. Oh and I DO MASSIVELY hate referral type comments, which is what spurred my nobjockey comment. They are up there with spam, and people on the sidewalk who put their hand out to shake your hand and say hello all friendly like so that they can attempt to sell you some charity.Īnd can I say that 2 seconds into the interview, Richard Garriot does a "cool" hand action.
